Wolf Laurel Ski Resort
Wolf Laurel Ski Resort is the closest ski area to Asheville, NC and most of the major cities in the South. The proposed new lifts and ski slopes could make Wolf Laurel Ski Resort the largest resort in North Carolina.
Wolf Laurel Ski Resort is the closest ski area to Asheville and due to it's location just off of the new I-26 Interstate Highway, the most convenient and accessible winter resort for most Southern skiers. At Wolf Laurel, you are just a short 4 miles off the freeway and there are no steep grades on Puncheon Fork, the access road to the resort. I believe this exploding Southern resort will soon capture the title of the largest ski resort south of Snowshoe Mountain up in West Virginia but remember I am prejudiced as I live here.
The ski resort is bounded on one side by the largest resort in the area, the almost 5,000 acre Wolf Laurel Resort. At the top, Mars
Hill Watershed and on the other side by Wolf Ridge Resort and the new Breakaway Village. They are planning two new lifts and several additional ski slopes and there is a ski lodge at the top and bottom of the mountain. Plans call for new village to village skiing with a "Southern style" ski circus like in Europe with skiing from the lower lodge to the peak, then over to the new mountain-top lodge and restaurant. From there you will be able to ski down through the new Wolf Ridge Resort or alternately Breakaway Village down to
new lifts at the bottom of the resort access road.
