Facing possible theft????? in des moines, ia?

my sisters ex boyfriend gave me 2 snowmobiles back in january of this year in exchange for taking care of his truck why he was away in california for the marines. I sold them about a month ago because i didn’t have the money to rebuild the motor on one and do other repairs on the other. Now I get a phone call yesterday from a dective stating that the ex boyfriend had filed theft charges on me for the snow mobiles and 2 guns which i know nothing about the guns. (the snow mobiles had no titles, when i sold them i sold with a bill of sale) and i have a letter somewhere (have moved and it’s proabley in storage somewhere) from the ex giving them to me. what do i tell the dective when i talk to him, I believe this is going to need to go to cort but don’t want to get throwen in jail for not having the paper in the mean time
