Accounting Help Please?
I need help to do adjusting journal entries, here is one:
Received a new shipment of Cruze Faceshields for inventory. All merchandise purchases by Gold Run Snowmobile are recorded NET. Invoice S4101 from Swift, Incorporated shows the list price of the merchandise at $150.00. Cash discount terms of 1/10, n/30 are offered and the merchandise is shipped FOB destination. The calculated NET purchase price of the merchandise that will be recorded in the journal entry is $148.50 (= $150.00 x .99)
If the payment is made within the discount period (before 10 days after date of invoice has passed), no adjusting entry is required when using the NET method. You would simply debit Accounts Payable $148.50 and credit Cash $148.50
However, if the invoice is paid after the discount period, you will debit Accounts Payable $148.50, debit Purchase Discounts Lost $1.50 and credit Cash $150.
