Frankly, I would not drive over to Gatlinburg, Tennessee from Asheville in order to go skiing. The low elevation means the skiing conditions are probably not as good or worse than most of the NC resorts. Having said this, there are plenty of great reasons to visit Gatlinburg and if you want to visit this major TN tourist attraction and some of your party want to ski, then by all means go. Gatlinburg is a fun tourist town with the added bonus of the Ober Gatlinburg amusement park and ski area. It is worth the trip over just to enjoy the ride up to the resort on the world's largest aerial tramway and the indoor ice skating rink. Click here for more information on the extensive non-skiing activities at the resort.

Favorite Hotels & Restaurants - There are so many hotels, restaurants and fun places to go out in Gatlinburg that your best bet is to go straight to the Gatlinburg Chamber of Commerce.  Gatlinburg has more dining and accommodations options than Asheville.
