A ski resort in the high country of western North Carolina that often gets short changed by its larger neighbors, Beech and Sugar Mountain. It is not quite as high and the slopes certainly aren't the length of Sugar but then again, it doesn't suffer from the lift lines and crowds like Sugar.
Also, if you are a young person and want to ski or snowboard half the night while eating, listening to live music, dancing and drinking, (something I wouldn't recommend if you have to drive) then their Nighthawk ski session until Midnight just may be for you. Next time you college kids decide to drive up to ski Sugar or Beech, try spending a Friday or Saturday skiing at Hawksnest.
This resort has the most potential for expansion as any in the high country of North Carolina outside of Wolf Laurel Resort down near Asheville and we will closely watch their expansion plans.
Favorite Hotels - They desperately need a hotel at Hawksnest but there are a good selection of condos for rent and outside of this, most visitors stay in Boone or Banner Elk.
Favorite Restaurants - The Nest Restaurant and bar is a good choice and the only choice for food and entertainment on the mountain. During ski season the band plays and you can ski until midnight.
Favorite Nightspots - On the slopes until midnight in their famous Nighthawk Session where you can drink, eat, party, dance, ski and board.
