Cataloochee was the first ski resort in North Carolina and it is still flying high over in Maggie Valley. This follows Wolf Laurel Resort as the second closest ski resort to the city of Asheville. The resort is very convenient to Asheville, Waynesville and Hurrah's Casino in Cherokee. Note, the bar in the ski lodge receives good reviews for fun and drinks with views of the slopes and even their lodge food is better than most. The bottom-line, an excellent place to ski with a wide variety of reasonably priced motels just down the road in Maggie Valley.
Favorite Hotels
Cataloochee Ranch - A great choice of lodge rooms and cabins and the best place to stay when skiing at Cataloochee. Note, Cataloochee Ranch is even more fun during the summer months with the great horseback riding and hiking trails where you can access the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Favorite Restaurants
J Arthurs Restaurant - Maggie Valley has a wide variety of restaurants and nightlife but this is my favorite restaurant for a fine night out on the town.
Joey's Pancake House - A well known choice for breakfast in Maggie Valley and of course you must try their pancakes.
