This
small family ski resort is actually where I learned to ski back when I
was a college student at the University of South Carolina at the
French-Swiss Ski College. It has ice skating, an excellent ski school
and learning slopes and the nightlife, accommodations and restaurants of
nearby Blowing Rock. There are larger ski resorts with far more varied
terrain near Banner Elk including Sugar Mountain, Beech Mountain and
Hawksnest but if only part of the family skis and you would prefer to
enjoy a wonderful selection of hotels and restaurants and winter sports
are secondary, then visit Blowing Rock.

Favorite Hotels
The
Green Park Inn - One of my favorite
places to stay in Blowing Rock and a Victorian Inn you will not
forget. I've stayed here many times and cannot recommend it enough. Good
restaurant and lounge, convenient with a lot of atmosphere, history and
romance. You'll think you're up in a quaint New England village and
hotel and you are except for the geography. Try it and you'll like it.
The Gideon Ridge

The Meadowbrook Inn
- Great restaurant and accommodations. Very convenient to downtown
Blowing Rock.
The
Castle Hotel - Unique and unusual and a little out of the way but
just off the Blue Ridge Parkway. Well worth a visit if you really want
to stay in a castle here in western NC as to my knowledge it is your
only choice.
The Village Inns
- Blowing Rock has a large number of bed and breakfast inns and if you
like this sort of thing, please check them out.
